Accueil » Ipécom Paris Private Lower Secondary School : A School for High Intellectual Potential (G&T) of Excellence in the 16th District of Paris
Located in the heart of the 16e arrondissement, the private lower secondary school Ipécom Paris is a secular institution, founded in 2017, distinguished by its commitment to educational excellence. Our school is specially designed to meet the needs of students with high intellectual potential (GT), offering tailored education for the development of each young learner.
We understand that intellectually precocious students (IPS) do not always follow traditional learning paths. That’s why our pedagogy is adapted to stimulate their innate curiosity, encourage their innovative thinking, and guide them toward remarkable academic and personal success.
Understanding Intellectual Precocity : Who are the IP?
A Look at Intellectual Precocity Students, often referred to by various terms such as “gifted children,” “high potential,” or “intellectually precocious students” represent a unique part of the educational landscape. Recognized by the National Education as intellectually precocious students (IPS), these young people stand out with a notably higher than average IQ, coupled with high potential for academic success and development.
Diversity and Individuality
Each GT student has a distinct profile, marked by varied skills and interests. This diversity underscores the crucial importance of an individualized educational approach, tailored to their unique and stimulating needs.
Specific Needs of GT Students
Unlike their peers, who are GT students often require additional challenges and enriching stimuli to remain engaged and motivated in their learning. They may also face emotional and social challenges, such as isolation or anxiety, or difficulties in adapting to the traditional school pace. In France, about 400,000 children aged 6 to 16 are identified as having high intellectual potential, representing about 2.3% of the population in this age group.
Our Commitment to the Education of Precocious Children
In our lower secondary school, we recognize and value the unique potential of each young GT learner. Our pedagogy is meticulously designed to nurture and stimulate these brilliant and curious minds. We firmly believe that these young talents deserve an educational environment that not only responds to their thirst for learning but also respects their unique learning pace.

Innovative Classes and Tailored Educational Framework in Lower Secondary School, Including a Bilingual Option
Specific Classes for Gifted Children For lower secondary school
we have developed two specific classes adapted to the needs of high-potential children: the flash class and the lightning class. These small-group classes offer an accelerated educational path, ideal for learners in search of more intellectually stimulating challenges.
Flash Class: An innovative combination of 6e* and 5e* french programs, this class allows for rapid and in-depth progression.
Éclair Class: A fusion of 4e* and 3e* french programs, it offers an enriched curriculum for lower secondary school students eager to take on advanced academic challenges. It also offers the opportunity for learners with methodological difficulties to redo a year, enriched in knowledge and methods. The name “lightning class” was chosen by the first generation of middle school students in 2017, who participated in this innovative academic year. It should be noted that there is no relation to other classes or programs with a similar name.
These accelerated classes meet the growing needs of intellectually precocious learners. It is important to emphasize that the well-being of the student is our priority, and it is based on this that we decide to allow a student to skip a grade.
Imposing a school grade based on age and not on the individual level is equivalent to imposing a shoe size based on age and not foot size.
J.-C. Terrassier (2002)
Bilingual Option
Our bilingual option is a distinctive feature of our school, enriching the educational experience with a multilingual and multicultural environment. Middle school students have the opportunity to study subjects such as mathematics, physics, and literature in English and French, thus strengthening their linguistic mastery and intercultural understanding.

Testimonials from Former Students and Parents at Our EIP School
Marlène Tiberghien’s Experience
When I realized in November 2019 that I needed a different educational environment, my parents suggested meeting with Madame Annie Reithmann, the Head of the School. The concept described on the school’s website, especially the theater classes (as I am passionate about it), inspired me to try something new.
A Glimpse into the “classe éclair”
The Lightning Class is a small group, about ten lower secondary school students, across two grades (4e – 3e in french program*). Students also participate in theater classes organized by a professional, which are a quality learning experience, helping learners to express themselves confidently. In this class, English is taught at a European 3e french level*. Every session, students give a one-minute oral presentation on a topic of their choice – an excellent pedagogical method that helps them enjoy learning English, increasingly essential in the professional world.
A New World
Initially, I was unsettled, moving from classes of over 30 students to a unique environment filled with individualities, each student with their personal journey. Gradually, I embraced curiosity and started interacting with teachers in subjects that fascinated me. My brief time at Ipécom taught me to feel comfortable and eager to learn and find my path.
→ Marlène continues her studies in the 10th grade at Ipécom Paris High School.
Testimonial from Maelig’s Mother
I haven’t had the chance to thank you for the work done with Maelig. His last year at Ipécom Paris was undoubtedly the necessary transition for his remarkable progress. Maelig reconnected with education and learned the value of hard work and its rewards, including pride.
These testimonials reflect the positive impact of the Lightning Class program on the children and their families, highlighting the quality of support provided by our EIP school.
A Parent’s Testimonial on Their Child’s Jump from 4e* to Seconde french grade:
The boredom, discomfort, and relational problems my child experienced in 4e french grade dissipated entirely. This change occurred as soon as she was given work that matched her intellectual speed in terms of understanding and solving exercises, among other things. Furthermore, the respect she felt and the friendships with older students reignited her joy of going to school, providing an extraordinary stimulation.

Ipécom Paris News and Press
The Lightning Class has garnered media attention for its innovative approach tailored to gifted or high-potential students. Here are some articles that have appeared in the press.
“In Her School, Gifted Children Can Skip a Grade”
On April 25th, “Le Parisien” published an article about our school for high-potential children. Written by Éric Le Mitouard, here’s an excerpt:
“As one climbs the travertine stairs worn by the steps of the 200 students who pass here every day, one gets the feeling of entering an extraordinary high school. Upstairs, the principal’s office, behind the glass door, exudes pressure… I oversee everything. But the students also know they can come in at any time to talk to me…” It’s therefore a gentle pressure.
A Generous Idea
The idea of Annie Reithmann is quite generous. “We often see lower secondary school students arrive totally lost. In our classes of 10 to 15 learners, they thrive once again.”
She wants to use this recipe for success for gifted or high-potential students. “It’s often in 5th or 4th grade that they start to become demotivated. Because the lessons aren’t moving fast enough. Here, I therefore propose that they do two years in one. That is to complete the curriculum of both 4eand 3e french grades* simultaneously,” she says.
Her Technique:
- First, provide a method of study.
- Create classes of 10 to 12 participants.
- Establish real tutoring between learners and teachers.
- Also offer flexible schedules: a whole week on art history, multiple museum visits, improvisational theater classes, enhanced English lessons… “I want, in my school for high-potential students, to reignite their joy of learning through effort, to restore their confidence.”
Because the students she receives are often children on the brink of dropping out. They arrive in her office on the advice of psychologists or at the request of distressed parents. An analysis of report cards and an interview then help to identify their potentials.

Also, in issue 89 of the journal 16, an article is dedicated to our school for high-potential students:
Children who understand quickly but do not bother to develop an analytical approach and get scattered, while they need to learn work methods that traditional curricula do not offer them. Ipécom Paris has undoubtedly drawn from proven methods in its high school and preparatory classes for top business schools to open, next fall, a new class corresponding to the second cycle of middle school: the combined 4te/3e french grade*. This is the Lightning Class…
